WELCOME

As your current Justice of the Peace for Precinct 2, Place 2, I am excited to announce my candidacy in the upcoming primary election to secure this position. Your active participation and support are crucial in this campaign to uphold values of justice, honesty, and integrity for all. Together, we can continue to make a positive impact in our community.

About Me

My background

I'm J.R. Mendoza, a dedicated long-term resident of Hays County. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from OLLU and bring over 12 years of contract compliance experience working for the state of Texas. I also have over 10 years of experience of honorable law enforcement with the San Marcos Police Department and the City Marshall's Office.

My top issues

As a former law enforcement officer, I will work closely with the district to:

  • Eliminate student fentanyl use
  • Eliminate student THC usage at schools
  • Reduce truancy and keep education dollar in the district.

My involvement

For the last 20+ years, my family and I have actively volunteered in various communities within Hays County. My contributions include regular participation in various food banks, volunteering at the youth shelter, serving as a board member for Friends of the Family Justice Center—a resource center for domestic violence—and dedicating time as a karate instructor for at-risk kids.

Issues

Eliminate Student Fentanyl Use

In the past months I have performed two separate inquests concerning tragic deaths of two teenagers, both suspected to have died of Fentanyl overdoses. I have and will continue to take the proactive steps to collaborate with community leaders and the Forever15Project to find effective ways my office can contribute to the solution.

Eliminate Student THC Usage At School

We have seen a rise in electronic cigarettes throughout our school district and the first initiative we can take is addressing the root of the problem. When students are caught using these devices and appear in a court room it presents an opportunity to find the reason behind their substance abuse, educate them about the effects of it and provide both students and their families with resources.

Reduce Truency

Truancy has seen a significant increase since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. I firmly believe that understanding the underlying reasons for this surge can lead to substantial improvements. Whether it involves mental health challenges, anxiety, or personal issues within the school or home environment, pinpointing these root causes is crucial for implementing effective solutions.
